Mid-Handicap golfer who loves to share his rounds and experiences playing courses all around the UK in a hope that it will help others find those hidden gem golf courses.
I seek out golf courses that don’t get the credit they deserve and are often overlooked for the bigger more well known ones.
Fulford is only a few minuted drive from my home, yet I have only played it once and this is my thoughts on the club and course.
In York we are blessed with several great golf courses but Fulford Golf Club has always been known as one of the best and a challenging course to play.
The history of the course we well known in North Yorkshitre and has a formidable reputation for quality facilities and course layout, design and style.
Maybe this and the price tag is what kept me away for so long.
Mid-Handicap players don’t always fancy paying £80+ for a round of golf that proves to be too bigger challenge to take on.
With that being said.
I really enjoyed my round and shot a respectable 91 for a 17.5 HCP golfer on a cold and wet Yorkshire day.
Key Takeaway from my visit
- The club house and history is very impressive
- I was made to feel very welcomed by the members and staff
- I played in Oct and the course was in great condition
- It’s expensive for visitors compared to other courses in the area
- Not suitable for high handicap golfers in my opinion
- Pace of play was okay, a touch slow with four balls everywhere. But acceptable

Playing Experience
The playing experience at Fulford Golf Club was one that I won’t forget for a long time.
I do wish I had played it in summer when all the heather and trees were at their best, but it was still a lovely course to play
My favorite hole was the par 4 on the 13th about 470 yards off the yellow. The approach shot looked insane, bunkers were everywhere!
I shot 6 on it. I went into a huge bunker on the right and took two to get out..
